Today formatted the laptop (losing gutsy) and installed hardy heron. no problems whatsoever so far. youtube works, flash works. firefox 3 beta doesn’t seem like any beta, it just works. installed git fine, now going to install all the rails stuff i need. maybe irssi. browsing seems quite a bit faster. happiness.

more experience, was dreading getting wireless working (dell inspiron 1500 laptop), but unplugged the wire, looked at networkmanager, and roaming was already working, and me and 4 of my neighbours were right there. worked just like with windows xp – it asked for a 128 passphrase, had to change that to 128 64 hex, and it worked. no need to fiddle around with ndiswrapper this time, thank god.

also, couldn’t get my graphics card fully working under gutsy (i think), but with hardy, it warned about using a proprietary driver outside of ubuntu control (got same warning about wireless driver), after installed driver, i can choose any of the three radios under ‘appearance’ and all work.

do windows users realize this stuff is free? omg, Bill can bite me.
